Admission Requirements to Program
Admission to the IRE Program is necessary before enrolling in junior and senior level competencies. To be considered for admission to the IRE Program, students must complete the following:
- Achieve a minimum GPA of 2.5 for all science, math, and engineering courses.
- Submit an application for admission to the IRE Program (usually completed during sophomore year).
- Apply to Minnesota State University, Mankato (this is done after applying to the IRE program in the above step, our IRE staff will help you with this process)
- Become Accepted into the Department of Integrated Engineering at Minnesota State Mankato (If you completed the two steps above, we at IRE will help you with this step)
- Submit a plan of study.
- Complete a minimum of 51 credits, which include the following courses:
- General Physics (calculus-based), 10 credits
- Calculus and Differential Equations, 16 credits
- Introduction to Engineering, 2 credits
- Engineering Mechanics (Statics & Dynamics), 6 credits
- Electrical Engineering (Circuits, including lab), 4 credits
- Chemistry, 5 credits
- English Composition, 4 credits
- Computer Graphics Communication, 1 credit
- Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, 1 credit
- Introduction to Problem Solving and Engineering Design, 2 credits
All of the above courses except internship credits, must be taken for "grade". For transfer students the distribution of credits specified in the previous paragraph may vary, but the total credits must satisfy departmental transfer requirements. Transfer students should contact the department for individual evaluation. A grade of "C" or better must be achieved in each course.
Upper division courses are available only to students who have been formally admitted to the program. Exceptions to this policy require special written permission from the Department of Integrated Engineering. If a student is denied admission to the program, he/she may reapply the following year.
